A Day at the Movies with CASA

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lancaster and Lebanon Counties hosted its second annual family movie day at Penn Cinema Lititz on Saturday, October 12. CASA’s movie day featured the newly released family adventure film “The Wild Robot.” The event was free and open to the community, but online registration was required and quickly outsold the original theater. A larger theater was requested and quickly sold out as well. CASA provided popcorn and water to attendees.  In addition, an introduction to CASA’s best-interest advocacy was shown prior to the show.  “We were so excited to be able to show this film to members of our community.  The message resonated with our mission and we wanted to provide a fun opportunity for people to spend time with one another,” stated Jessica Laspino, CASA’s Executive Director.

“The Wild Robot,” rated PG, is an animated science fiction film based on the book series of the same name by Peter Brown, produced by DreamWorks Animation. The epic adventure follows the journey of a robot, ROZZUM unit 7134, “Roz” for short, that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling.

CASA’s mission is to provide a qualified and compassionate court-appointed volunteer advocate to every child who is abused and neglected, to ensure the fundamental human right of having a safe, nurturing, and permanent home is met. Our core values include community responsibility served through engagement, education, and transparency. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are community volunteers who stand up and speak out to help abused and neglected children.
